The platform’s head of product, Nikita Bier, confirmed the figure in his X post, revealing that the X Cash Tag functionality is rapidly transforming how 550 million users interact with financial markets.
The new tool, which launched on Tuesday, allows users to embed live stock and crypto tickers directly into posts.
“Based on aggregated data from our trading pilot, X has driven an estimated $1 billion in trading volume globally since launching on Tuesday night,” Bier stated in a post on the platform.
Why X is expanding into finance
Currently available to iPhone users in the United States and Canada, the feature is the first major step toward Elon Musk’s vision of turning the social media giant into an “everything app” that includes peer-to-peer payments and e-commerce.
The Cash Tag system does not just display data; it shortens the path from discussion to trade.
In Canada, X has partnered with the online brokerage Wealthsimple to create a seamless transaction loop.
“X has always been the best source of financial news for traders and investors. Billions of dollars are allocated every day based on what people read on Timeline,” Bier said during the announcement.
“Today we’re launching our new Cashtags feature… bringing real-time financial data to X”.
Cashtags support conventional equities and crypto assets
The tool supports both traditional equities and a wide range of crypto assets. When a user posts or searches for a ticker such as $BTC or $SPY, the platform automatically suggests the correct asset to ensure accuracy.
This speed of adoption has startled traditional finance observers. One analyst noted that Robinhood took roughly a year to reach similar user engagement levels, whereas X achieved a billion dollars in volume in a weekend with a pilot that hasn’t even reached Android users yet.
Bier emphasised that this is only the beginning, calling the Cashtags launch “just the first step” in making financial content on X “more executable”.
