Applications are open for the Youth for Responsible AI Fellowship 2026, a fully remote programme that will bring together emerging leaders from around the world to explore the social, ethical and governance issues surrounding AI.

The fellowship seeks young people who want to contribute to conversations about how AI should be developed and deployed. Organisers say the initiative will equip participants with practical knowledge, leadership skills, and opportunities to collaborate with peers working on technology and public-interest issues.

Building the Next Generation of AI Leaders

The Youth for Responsible AI Fellowship will run virtually from 1 July to 29 August 2026. Participants are expected to commit between five and seven hours each week to programme activities, enabling them to participate alongside their studies or professional responsibilities.

The fellowship is open to applicants aged 15 to 28 from any country. Organisers have stated that previous experience in artificial intelligence is not required. Instead, they are looking for motivated young people who have demonstrated initiative through projects, research, advocacy, community work or other creative endeavours.

Successful applicants will join a small global cohort and work with peers from diverse backgrounds while exploring the opportunities and challenges associated with emerging AI technologies.

Focus on Responsible and Ethical AI

As AI continues to influence education, business, healthcare and public services, concerns about fairness, transparency, safety and accountability have become increasingly important. Experts have repeatedly highlighted the need for broader participation in discussions about AI governance and ethical innovation.

The fellowship aims to give young people a voice in those discussions. Participants will engage with ideas on responsible AI development and examine how technology can benefit communities while reducing potential harms.

Research has also shown that young people can offer valuable perspectives on the impact of AI systems, particularly when they are included in conversations about technology oversight and accountability.

Application Details

Applications for the 2026 cohort are currently open and will close on 25 June 2026. Only seven fellowship places are available globally, making the programme highly competitive. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a brief interview before final selections are made.

The fellowship is free to join and will be delivered entirely online, enabling participation from young innovators regardless of location. Organisers encourage students, researchers, builders, advocates and aspiring technology leaders to apply and help shape a future where AI serves society responsibly.
