Egypt is stepping up efforts to reinforce its position as a regional technology hub. The government is advancing fresh measures in digital transformation, ICT investment, and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.

At a recent high-level meeting, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed strategies designed to accelerate the country’s digitalisation agenda and create a more attractive climate for investment in the ICT sector.

The discussions brought together senior officials from the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Boosting ICT collaboration and digital skills

The talks focused on strengthening collaboration between ministries, expanding digital skills training programmes, and supporting start-ups to foster a more innovation-friendly ecosystem.

Officials also emphasised the importance of leveraging international cooperation to drive progress, with bilateral and multilateral partnerships expected to maximise technology’s role in development and facilitate expertise exchange.

The Cabinet noted that Egypt is seeking to enhance partnerships with global stakeholders to introduce modern solutions while also building local capacity through tailored training initiatives. Government officials say these steps will help ensure that digital transformation efforts are inclusive and sustainable.

AI integration in public business operations

In a parallel move, Minister of Public Business Sector Mohamed Shimi held talks with Masar for Consultancy and Business Development and GAIA, a firm specialising in AI solutions. Discussions centred on integrating AI technologies into the ministry’s subsidiary companies to modernise operations, cut costs, and boost efficiency.

The companies showcased advanced solutions, including predictive maintenance systems, AI-driven risk management, operational safety tools, and other technologies to extend equipment lifespans and streamline work processes. By embedding these tools, officials expect to reduce downtime, strengthen decision-making, and improve competitiveness.

Shimi underscored the government’s commitment to digital transformation across public enterprises, stressing that collaboration with leading technology firms will be central to upgrading operations.

“The ministry welcomes cooperation with firms in digital transformation to deliver innovative technological solutions that improve the work environment and upgrade operations, in line with Egypt’s comprehensive digitalisation strategy,” he said.

Towards a digital economy

The government’s push on both ICT and AI underscores Egypt’s broader ambition to create a digitally driven economy. By attracting investment, equipping citizens with digital skills, and embedding advanced technologies across sectors, Cairo seeks to position itself at the forefront of the region’s technological evolution.

Analysts note that sustained efforts in digital capacity building and public-private partnerships could accelerate Egypt’s progress toward becoming a regional hub for innovation, aligning with its vision for sustainable development and competitiveness in the global economy.
