European VCs Breega and Speedinvest co-led the round, indicating that investors strongly supported Anda’s efforts to formalise and professionalise this expansive sector.

Anda’s strategy combines a digital ride-hailing and delivery platform that enhances driver safety, accessibility, and income with a novel “drive-to-own” model that allows riders to finance the purchase of their motorcycles.

Formalising Angola’s Informal motorcycle taxi sector

Most motorcycle taxi drivers in Angola work without permits, the necessary safety equipment, insurance, or training, which restricts their earning potential and keeps them out of official financial systems.

Anda solves these issues by enabling motorbike purchases through finance, allowing drivers to become financially independent and expand their businesses.

Co-founder Sergio Tati explained, “Our goal is to empower drivers with ownership, stability, and long-term economic opportunity. This funding will allow us to scale our operations, enhance our technology, and expand our impact across Angola.”

To provide a comprehensive ecosystem for this industry, Anda combines its asset finance with a digital platform that offers ride-hailing, delivery, driver training, and insurance access.

Anda estimates that the motorbike taxi industry is worth over $5 billion nationwide, with 600,000 riders in Luanda’s capital alone. This figure is consistent with a larger trend observed in the informal transportation markets of sub-Saharan Africa.

Investors see the funding as a key step toward “rewriting the mobility story across Africa” by transforming informal sectors with tech-driven solutions.

Anda will use the capital to develop its fleet, platform, delivery services, and driver onboarding and training. By formalising one of Angola’s most populated sectors, Anda might empower millions of motorbike taxi drivers and change urban mobility.
