With a deadline set for May 17, 2026, Cohort 6 of the programme aims to support early-stage innovators in building solutions that can reshape how financial services are delivered in Africa.
The initiative, backed by Visa Inc., targets startups ready to move beyond the idea phase. Organisers say the accelerator connects founders with experienced mentors, advanced tools, and investors who can help them expand rapidly in competitive markets.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to startups from the Seed to Series A stages, provided they have developed at least a minimum viable product (MVP). Teams must demonstrate that their solutions are market-ready or already tested with early traction. Startups operating within Africa—or those planning to expand into African markets—are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants are expected to be building solutions aligned with key fintech themes. These include embedded finance, payment infrastructure, tools that support merchants and SMEs, and innovations shaping the future of finance. Solutions focused on improving financial access and sustainability are also welcomed.
Training, Mentorship, and Product Support
Selected startups will receive hands-on training in core business areas, including product design, marketing, finance, and sales. The programme also offers direct access to Visa’s fintech resources, including its developer platform and technical expertise, enabling founders to refine and scale their solutions more effectively.
Mentorship is a central component of the accelerator. Founders will participate in one-on-one sessions with experienced entrepreneurs and industry specialists who provide practical guidance based on real-world experience. This approach ensures startups gain insights that go beyond theory and directly impact growth.
Funding and Partnership Opportunities
Participants will have the opportunity to pitch their solutions during a Demo Day attended by investors and ecosystem leaders. The event creates pathways to potential funding from Plug and Play Tech Centre, Visa, and other venture capital firms that are actively investing in fintech.
Beyond funding, the accelerator places strong emphasis on partnerships. Startups can collaborate with established industry players, opening doors to distribution channels, technology integration, and new markets. These connections are designed to help founders move faster and compete more effectively.
Expanding Africa’s Fintech Ecosystem
In addition to training and access to funding, selected startups will benefit from product perks valued at over $200,000. These include discounts, tools, and services from more than 100 vendors, helping reduce operational costs while improving product development.
With fintech adoption accelerating across Africa, programmes like the Visa Africa Accelerator continue to play a key role in supporting innovation. By providing startups with the right mix of capital, knowledge, and networks, the 2026 cohort is expected to create ventures that drive financial inclusion and digital transformation across the continent.
