ChitChat, a leading African social commerce platform, has launched a new remittance feature enabling users to send and receive money seamlessly across 13 countries worldwide.

The new feature, released on Monday, November 4, enhances the platform’s existing financial services. It allows users to access cross-border transfers directly within chat conversations. It is supported by a multicurrency ChitChat wallet and USD virtual debit card.

With a focus on secure and effortless transactions, ChitChat’s platform allows Africans at home and abroad to send money in dollars to family and friends, who can then convert the funds to local currencies. Users can send funds to bank accounts, mobile wallets, and cash agents in diverse markets, including U.S., India, Japan, China, UK, and key African countries such as South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Supporting financial connectivity for African households

Remittances are an essential financial lifeline for many African families, contributing over 20 percent of GDP in several African countries. In 2022, remittance flows to Africa reached $100 billion, outpacing traditional development assistance and foreign direct investment. ChitChat’s new feature is designed to simplify remittance transactions, making it easier for Africans to support loved ones and conduct business from abroad.

“We are thrilled to introduce remittances as the latest offering on the ChitChat platform,” said Perseus Mlambo, CEO of ChitChat. “This feature allows Africans at home and abroad to send money easily and securely. Whether it’s a bank deposit in the UK, a mobile wallet transfer in Zimbabwe, or a cash payout in Ghana, we aim to provide a smooth and accessible service for all.”
