The agreement, announced on Wednesday, brings together Crossmint’s stablecoin and wallet infrastructure with Paga’s payment network and fiat rails.
The companies say the collaboration will help connect African users and enterprises to global financial systems through stablecoin-based payment solutions.
How the stablecoin partnership works
Under the partnership, Crossmint will integrate Paga Engine’s local fiat on- and off-ramp services into its global payout network to enable businesses using Crossmint to move funds into and out of African markets more efficiently.
This stablecoin initiative relies on smart-contract wallets provided by Crossmint. These wallets operate directly on blockchain networks and can support features such as spending limits and multi-party approvals.
According to the companies, the technology is designed to provide users with greater control over digital assets while keeping the blockchain infrastructure largely invisible in everyday use. The approach aims to simplify stablecoin adoption for businesses and individuals who may not be familiar with blockchain technology.
Crossmint Co-founder Rodri Fernández Touza noted the importance of the African market, particularly Nigeria.
“I once lived in Surulere, in the heart of Lagos, so this partnership means a lot to me. The people I knew there worked hard for their money, yet moving it across borders was slow and expensive,” he said.
“Crossmint builds the stablecoin and wallet infrastructure behind Paga’s digital dollars, cards, and U.S. accounts, putting instant global payments into the hands of millions of Nigerians.”
At the same time, Paga will use Crossmint’s infrastructure to launch a new generation of stablecoin wallets for consumers and agents. The companies said the arrangement creates a two-way payment bridge between local currencies and digital dollar-based assets.
Speaking on the partnership, Tayo Oviosu, Founder and Group CEO of Paga Group, said: “Paga has always been about building the rails for the future of money, and that future is multi-blockchain and multi-stablecoin.”
“By combining Paga’s local financial rails with Crossmint’s programmable wallet infrastructure, we are connecting the African economy to global finance—eliminating the tax of friction, preserving wealth, and giving African consumers and businesses the financial mobility they deserve.”
Who benefits from the Crossmint-Paga deal?
The partnership targets multinational firms, developers, and everyday users seeking faster payment options. Businesses using Crossmint will gain access to Paga’s local payment infrastructure, while African developers will be able to build stablecoin-native products using Crossmint’s APIs.
The announcement comes as interest in stablecoin payments continues to grow across Africa, driven by demand for cross-border transfers, digital savings, and alternative payment channels.
The growing interest has attracted major payment companies and fintechs. Over the past year, firms including Visa, Yellow Card, Flutterwave, and Polygon have announced stablecoin initiatives aimed at reducing settlement times and lowering the cost of moving money across African markets.
Paga has processed more than $11 billion in payments and facilitated 169 million transactions in 2025 alone, while Crossmint currently supports over 50 blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Stellar, and Sui.
