Artificial intelligence (AI) powers the state-of-the-art technology of this recently established third station.  With its lightning-fast chargers that can automatically diagnose and adjust to different car requirements, it fills a significant market gap.

It is especially compatible with European EV vehicles. Up to 16 cars can be parked at the station at once, ensuring drivers receive prompt service.  With this completion, the company’s three constructed stations can now accommodate a combined total of 48 vehicles at once.

Notably, the business has already constructed and put into service charging stations along both sides of the Bole–Megenagna corridor, capable of accommodating up to 32 electric vehicles simultaneously.

The company claims that over 165,000 electric vehicles have been served by these stations since they started operating on February 11, 2025, and 4,349,761.54 kilowatt-hours of electricity have been dispensed.

More than 30,444 trees have been planted as a result of this programme, which successfully prevented 6,081,447.62 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

Ethio Telecom EV charging station features

The station’s 16 super-fast chargers, each with a capacity of up to 180 kWh, enable rapid charging periods. The infrastructure uses cutting-edge systems that are distinguished by:

Intelligent Diagnostics: By utilising AI, the system provides a self-adjusting, optimal charging session by analysing battery specs and client requests in advance (charging after diagnosis).

Battery Health & Efficiency: The system actively maintains and restores battery health while guaranteeing zero energy loss, high efficiency, and zero error rates.

Future-Ready Scalability: The infrastructure’s architecture is scalable, enabling rapid, cost-effective expansion or upgrades to meet rising demand.

Ethio’s Telebirr SuperApp station upgrade

Delivering on the promise of a digital lifestyle, Ethio Telecom integrates the Telebirr SuperApp with the station, which operates 24/7, and this includes the following features:

Integrated Payment: Telebirr lets users make payments quickly, safely, and easily.

Self-Service Capability: Drivers can start service and complete transactions independently.

Intelligent Monitoring: Users can follow the charging process in real time with a robust online monitoring system.  Fibre, 4G, and 5G networks connect to incredibly dependable cloud servers that support the system.

Tap-to-Charge: Users can initiate charging with a single tap via NFC (Near Field Communication), enabling intelligent authentication.

Ethio Telecom continues to take the lead by deploying dependable, effective, and future-ready infrastructure as Ethiopia accelerates its shift to a green economy and sustainable mobility.

The opening of this third cutting-edge charging station is evidence of the company’s ongoing efforts to use innovation and digital technologies to revolutionise the country’s transportation infrastructure.
