The incubation programme, known as iHatch, operates across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory through a decentralised innovation hub model. Organisers say the initiative focuses on building stronger startup support systems while helping founders develop practical business solutions.
Focus on Early-Stage Founders
The programme targets entrepreneurs with technology- or tech-enabled ideas who are ready to move from the concept stage to execution. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, reside in Nigeria, and apply as a team of at least 2 members. At least one team member must have technical expertise and be available full-time during the incubation period.
Organisers stated that startups at the idea, prototype, or minimum viable product stage are encouraged to apply. Selected teams are expected to commit at least 10 hours per week and to participate fully throughout the programme cycle.
The initiative will support founders working in sectors such as FinTech, AgriTech, HealthTech, EdTech, CleanTech, logistics, and security innovation. According to the programme details, these sectors were chosen for their potential to address local challenges while building scalable businesses.
Mentorship, Training, and Market Access
Participants will receive structured mentorship, product development support, market validation guidance, and business growth training. Organisers also promise access to innovation hubs, investors, and ecosystem partners nationwide.
The incubation process includes hub onboarding, startup development sessions, expert coaching, and regional demo days where founders can showcase their products to investors and industry stakeholders.
Information published on the official iHatch portal states that the broader programme structure combines innovation hub training with startup incubation activities over 10 months. The startup-focused phase itself runs for about four to five months, depending on the cohort structure.
Nationwide Innovation Push
The iHatch programme is backed by the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation under the National Information Technology Development Agency. Earlier editions of the initiative provided startup mentorship, coworking opportunities, and connections to investors and industry experts.
Applications require supporting materials, including a pitch deck, video pitch, CAC registration documents where available, and evidence of market traction or pilot projects. Multiple entries from the same startup are not permitted.
Organisers say the latest cohort aims to strengthen entrepreneurship across Nigeria by helping founders build sustainable businesses capable of attracting long-term investment and creating jobs.
