The programme comes at a time when international organisations are expanding remote work opportunities for young professionals seeking experience in global development. UNDP says the internships will expose participants to policy research, digital transformation initiatives, and sustainability-focused projects linked to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Focus on Sustainable Finance and Research

One of the featured internships centres on sustainable finance research, with interns supporting work related to ESG integration, sovereign debt analysis, and development finance. Reports published on UN-affiliated recruitment platforms show that selected candidates may contribute to studies examining how environmental and social reforms affect economic resilience and national credit systems.

UNDP’s Sustainable Finance Hub has increasingly pushed for research that connects climate action, economic stability, and inclusive growth. Interns are expected to assist with policy briefs, data collection, visualisation tools, and analytical reports that support financial reform efforts across developing economies.

The organisation says applicants with backgrounds in economics, finance, international relations, public policy, or development studies may be well-suited to these roles.

Digital Innovation Roles Gain Attention

Another major opportunity is the Digital, AI and Innovation Internship, a home-based programme supporting the UNDP’s global digital transformation agenda. The internship focuses on data governance, digital policy, artificial intelligence, and innovation systems.

According to vacancy details, interns may help research responsible data use, support national digital strategies, monitor global data governance discussions, and prepare policy materials for UNDP teams and partner institutions.

The programme supports UNDP’s broader effort to strengthen digital public infrastructure and expand access to technology-driven development solutions across more than 170 countries and territories.

Who Can Apply

UNDP states that internships are open to students completing postgraduate studies, final-year undergraduate students, and recent graduates. Strong analytical, communication, and research skills are considered important for most positions. Knowledge of data analysis tools and international development issues may also provide an advantage.

Most of the internships are fully remote, allowing successful applicants to work from their home countries while collaborating with international teams. Some roles may require occasional travel depending on project needs.

Application deadlines vary by role, with several positions remaining open through September 2026. UNDP encourages early applications as recruitment may occur on a rolling basis.
