The initiative, funded under Horizon Europe, seeks to support practical solutions that improve fairness, sustainability and climate-conscious trade systems within Africa’s agricultural sector. Organisers say eight sub-projects will receive funding from a total pool of €400,000. Applications close on 30 June 2026.
Funding Targets Research and Technology Solutions
According to the programme details, the Open Call focuses on two main areas. The first supports projects that test, validate and improve existing business concepts and digital tools already developed under the FCI4Africa programme. The second encourages applicants to build fresh ideas and technologies that address challenges affecting African food systems.
The call is open to single applicants only, meaning consortium applications will not be accepted. Eligible participants include universities, research institutes, innovation-driven startups, R&D-focused SMEs and multidisciplinary technology actors working within agriculture and food trade systems.
Project organisers said funded initiatives must also generate datasets that will help improve the programme’s methods, tools and business concepts over time.
Successful Applicants to Begin Work in November
The implementation phase for selected projects is scheduled to run from November 2026 to October 2027. The programme will unfold in three stages.
The first phase, running from November 2026 to January 2027, will focus on planning and activity preparation. The second phase, from February to July 2027, will centre on the development and demonstration of project results. The final phase, between August and October 2027, will cover validation, dissemination activities and lessons learned.
Programme organisers stated that proposals must be submitted digitally via the official Open Calls platform by 17:00 CEST on 30 June 2026.
