AI Builders Take Centre Stage
The programme opens with a week-long hackathon scheduled for May 30 to June 6. Participants will work in teams to build solutions for healthcare access, education, financial inclusion, and local-language technology. Organisers said both technical and non-technical contributors are welcome, allowing product managers, designers, and business strategists to participate alongside software engineers and AI developers.
The hackathon will combine virtual participation with in-person sessions in Lagos. Mentors and facilitators from companies including Microsoft, Paystack, Octav, Vouchsafe, and Cencori are expected to lead workshops and provide guidance during the build sessions.
Organisers stated that the initiative seeks to move beyond conversations about artificial intelligence by giving young Africans opportunities to build practical products and collaborate with experienced professionals in the ecosystem.
Conference to Spotlight African AI Innovation
The programme, which aims to bring together students, researchers, founders, developers, and AI enthusiasts from across Africa and beyond, will conclude with a full-day conference on June 13 at The Civic Centre. The event will feature keynote sessions, panel discussions, networking sessions, and live startup pitches from top hackathon teams.
According to the organisers, the conference is open to the public, including attendees who did not participate in the hackathon. Speakers are expected to discuss the future of AI in Africa, startup funding, product development, and the role of emerging technology in solving regional challenges.
The organisers also plan to connect promising teams with investors, ecosystem partners, and mentors through a post-event support pathway known as the Launchpad initiative.
