NiRA has advanced Nigeria’s digital landscape for over 20 years. Formerly a technical resource, the.ng domain now represents national pride, trust, and digital independence.

Mr Peter Oluka welcomed guests to the 8th.NG Awards and NiRA’s 20th anniversary, noting the significance of the milestone. The address highlighted NiRA’s two decades of strengthening Nigeria’s digital identity and driving innovation.

Calling the occasion “a special moment in NiRA’s history,” the welcome underscored the collective effort behind the organisation’s growth. The message ended with optimism for continued progress and new opportunities for the .NG domain.

The opening remark was made by the President of NiRA, Adesola Akinsanya, who emphasized “excellence, innovation, and the spirit of Nigeria’s digital identity.” He honoured the “founding fathers and mothers” who laid the foundation for the.NG domain and thanked partners whose efforts have pushed it “to new heights.”

Describing .NG as “a national asset that reflects who we are,” Akinsanya urged Nigerians and organisations to make it their domain of choice. He also celebrated awardees as “pioneers shaping Nigeria’s digital future,” declaring: “The next 20 years begin now.”

The awards recognized excellence across various sectors of Nigeria’s digital and media landscape. Pulse NG was named Best Online Media Website, while The Guardian took home the award for Best Print Media Website. In the electronic media category, Ogun State Television and Cool FM 96.9 were honored as the Best Television Website and Best Radio Website, respectively.

Fidelity Bank emerged as the Best Commercial Banking Website/Portal, and XXX Sanlam Alliance was recognized as the Best Insurance Website/Portal. In the digital services category, Smart Cash PSB won Best E-Payment Website/Portal, while Jumia was named Best E-Commerce Website.

Educational institutions were also recognized, with Lagos State University of Education receiving the Best Tertiary Institution Website/Portal award, and Queens College receiving the Best Primary/Secondary School Website/Portal award.

Technology innovation was highlighted with NitHub as Best Technology Hub Website/Portal, Agric Connect as Best Agric Tech Company of the Year, Galaxy Backbone as Best Local Hosting Company, and Hybrid Height as the Most Innovative Service Provider Online.

In the Presidential Awards Category, the honours included the Best Civil Organisation /Advocacy Personality 2025, which went to Citizens GAVEL. The Digital Trust and Anti-Piracy Champion Award was presented to the Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC). The Special Recognition Award 2025 was presented to Sen. Shuaib Afolabi Salisbury, the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), and Hon.

Adedeji Stanley Olajide for their outstanding contributions. The Special Award for Jury Members 2025 acknowledged the dedication of Mr. Akinfaderin Aduragbemi and Mr. Sanya Aduragbemi. This year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards also honoured distinguished figures, including Dr. Isaac Odeyemi, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Chima Oyekperi, and Dr. (Mrs.) Ibukun Abimbola Odusote.

The celebration highlighted Nigeria’s digital progress and the growing impact of the .NG domain. It recognised pioneers, innovators, and organisations driving technology, content, and connectivity forward.

The milestone marked both achievement and a call to action, inspiring continued growth and innovation. With vision and collaboration, the next chapter promises a stronger, more connected, and digitally empowered Nigeria.
